Recovery @ Antioch
Proverbs 27:17

In October of 2023 Ashley Arnold reached out to our pastor about starting a recovery meeting at Antioch. On the 12th of January 2024 the meetings started on Friday nights. They haven't stopped since. Over the years we have grown and learned what it means to recover together. We Do Recover. We have to lean on Christ and give Him what our lives have become but it's worth it all. All the pain, all the tears, all the prayers that go into recovery. Ashley started our recovery ministry using curriculum from Recovery Alive, Inc. based in Selma, NC. Here is some of their history. Recovery Alive was founded in 2020 by John Eklund during the COVID-19 Pandemic Crisis. John Eklund has 20+ years experience working in recovery ministry, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and is an ordained pastor currently ministering at Temple City Church. In 2020, John and his team prioritized the need for accessible online recovery meetings, making the commitment to build a Christ-centered recovery program that had the ability to be 100% online AND in-person. Since then, Recovery Alive has grown to include 70+ churches who have partnered together to launch Recovery Alive Meetings around the world. At our recovery meeting each week we share a meal, fellowship, recite the 12 steps and beatitudes, have prayer, worship through music, listen to someone that has been through recovery give their testimony or a step talk based on one of the 12 steps, have a time of response, celebrate milestones with a chip ceremony, engage each other in discussion and provide resources for your recovery. It doesn't have to be drugs or alcohol. We all struggle with something. We do recover, together we recover. Come join us!
The 12 Steps and their Biblical Foundations
Step 1: We admitted we were powerless and that our lives had become unmanageable.
I want to do what is right, but I can’t. (Romans 7:18)
Step 2: We came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
For I can do everything through Christ who gives me strength. (Philippians 4:13)
Step 3: We made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God.
Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. (Romans 10:13)
Step 4: We made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
Let us test and examine our ways. Let us turn back to the Lord. (Lamentations 3:40)
Step 5: We had admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human the harm we had done to others, and the harm that was done to us.
Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. (James 5:16)
Step 6: We humbly asked God to remove our defects of character.
Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me. (Psalm 51:10)
Step 7: We asked God for the grace to forgive those who have hurt us.
For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him. (Philippians 2:13)
Step 8: We made amends to all persons we had harmed unless to do so would injure them or others.
Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone. (Romans 12:18)
Step 9: We extended forgiveness to those who had harmed us, except when to do so would injure them or others.
And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him. (2 Corinthians 5:18)
Step 10: We continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong, promptly admitted it.
Cling to your faith in Christ and keep your conscience clear.
(1Timothy 1:19)
Step 11: We sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscience contact with God, praying only for knowledge of His will for us, and power to carry that out.
Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)
Step 12: Having had a spiritual experience as a result of these steps, we try to carry this message to others and practice these principles in all our affairs.
Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and and the Son and the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19)

Serenity Prayer
God, grant me the serenity,
To accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time.
Enjoying one moment at a time.
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace,
Taking, as Jesus did, this sinful world as it is,
Not as I would have it.
Trusting that You will make all things right,
If I surrender to Your will.
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life,
And supremely happy with You,
Forever in the next.
AMEN!

Meeting Times
Friday 6:00pm (Meal) 6:45pm (Power Group)
On Fridays we meet together around a meal and share fellowship. After the meal at 6:45 we have a "Power group" meeting where we have a time of worship and testimony or teaching about one of the 12 steps. After the power group is over we have "People groups" where Men & Women have separate support groups that discuss one of the core questions from the Recovery Alive handbook. We also celebrate recovery milestones with a chip ceremony and provide resources for your or your family's recovery. Come and see!
Food Pantry & Prayer - Every 3rd Saturday 12:00pm-2:00pm
Every third Saturday we sponsor a Food Pantry in the fellowship hall where we allow anyone to come and get food. We also give out information about the Church, it's events and ask people if we can pray with them. Sometimes it's awkward, sometimes, it's powerful. God always is reaching people this is one way he uses us to do His work. By being faithful to feed others physically and spiritually we bring others to Christ. Come join us!
